Information:
Die naturforschende Gesellschaft wurde bereits 1746 als "Physikalische Gesellschaft zu Zürich" gegründet, als erste naturforschende Vereinigung in der Schweiz; erster Präsident: Johannes Gessner (1709-1778); spätere Umbenennung. Mit Dr. med. Paul Usteri (1768-1831), der die Präsidentschaft zeitweilig führte, war der hannoversche Hofbotaniker Friedrich Ehrhardt (1742-1795) freundschaftlich verbunden.- Zum Zeitpunkt seiner Ernennung war J. Chr. Wendland nicht Plantagemeister, sondern seit kurzem Gartenmeister im Großen Garten und im Berggarten.- Literatur: Rübel, E.: Geschichte der Naturforschenden Gesellschaft in Zürich 1746-1946, Festschrift zur 200-Jahr-Feier...Fretz,1947.
