Information:
Im Jahr 1537 veröffentlichte der Tiroler Johannes Putsch die erste anthropomorphe Karte, auf der eine gekrönte weibliche Figur den Umrissen Europas angepasst ist. Putsch lebte im Umkreis von Kaiser Ferdinand I. Ab 1588 erschien die Karte der Königin Europa auch in den Auflagen von Sebastian Münsters „Cosmographey“. In seiner Weltbeschreibung betonte Münster die Überlegenheit Europas gegenüber Asien, Afrika und Amerika. (Landesbibliothek Oldenburg)
