Anmerkung:
Schon 1396 werden unter dem Kohnstein mehrere Kalkröstereien genannt. Abbau und Verarbeitung von Kalk und Gips haben im Ort eine lange Tradition. Besondere Bedeutung kam dem Alabaster, dem "Hohnsteinschen Marmor" zu. Der Gips- und Anhydritabbau und die Verarbeitung prägen den Ort bis in die heutige Zeit. Im 18. Jahrhundert wurde auch Kupfer abgebaut und verarbeitet.
