Anmerkung zum Auftraggeber:
1877/78 hatte der Fabrikant Julius Bergmann auf dem Gelände am Fuße des Pontelberges in der Nähe der östlichen Zufahrt zum Eisenbahntunnel Ellrich-Walkenried eine Gipsfabrik gegründet und ihr seinen Namen gegeben. Zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts entwickelte sich das Unternehmen zur damals größten Gipsfabrik in Deutschland. Wegen Überkapazitäten bei der Gipsgewinnung wurde das Unternehmen 1927 gegen Abfindung geschlossen.
