Ostfriesischen Inseln und gehört als einzige zum Oldenburger Land. Auf den der Küste vorgelagerten Inseln wurde früher Fischfang betrieben. Erst um 1800 entdeckte man sie für den Tourismus. 1804 startete der Kurbetrieb im „Seebad“ Wangerooge mit einem einzigen Badekarren. (Landesbibliothek Oldenburg)
