An ihrer Oberseite befinden sich meist drei Lamellen, über die ein Spieler mit angefeuchteten Händen streicht und so einen singenden Klang produziert. Ihre Existenz unterlag der Geheimhaltung. Sie wurden nur im Verborgenen gespielt, da die uneingeweihten den Ursprung ihres Klangs nicht erkennen sollten. (Landesmuseum Hannover)
